MSTCA Invitational

The team ended the season in fine style at the MSTCA Invitational.

In the 9th-grade 3K, Caroline Brady grabbed a medal by passing ten people in the last half-mile to finish 49th in 14:45. Bettina Mahoney had her first invitational experience at 16:42, and Caitlyn Hansbury's 17:10 was nearly two full minutes faster than her time on the same course five weeks ago.

In the 11th-12th grade 5K, Michelle Hurwitz led the team in 25:00. Shannon Glynn had another breakout day in 25:42, and at 26:35 Erin Fanikos beat her previous best on this course.

Congratulations, and on to some well-deserved rest!

See here for complete results. Our races were the D.II freshman race and the D.II 11-12 grade race. Scroll about halfway down the results.

Girls CCL League Meet

Everyone who ran has real reason to be proud today. You put it all together and ran with confidence and intensity. You made your hard workouts pay off on race day! Complete results are available on the team schedule page.

FBA came in 3rd with 86 points. Congratulations to Ursuline for their first-ever league meet victory.

In the Freshman/Sophomore 3K, Caroline Brady came in 7th at 13:24. That's an improvement of 1:26 over her previous best.
It was great to have Bettina Mahoney back racing healthy, too!

In the Varsity 5K, it was huge PR's all around.
Collette O'Connor earned All-Star status with a 22:56, a PR by 1:02.
Michelle Hurwitz is also an All-Star after her 23:49 took 1:03 off her previous best.
Shannon Glynn broke through at 24:50, which is 1:32 faster than her previous best.
Erin Fanikos ran her third-straight PR, this time taking off another 33 seconds to finish her Cunningham career off in style at 25:27.
Deirdre Cahill also left nothing on the table, closing out her season with a huge career best of 25:46, a 1:15 improvement.

Thank you also to Caitlin Hansbury for directing traffic at the top of gasline, to Bettina and Collette for caring for injured runners on other teams, to Coach Potter for advice and for keeping the course safe, and to parents and aunts who helped serve pizza and clean up.

Next up: Manhunt on Friday, Costume Run on Monday. MSTCA Invitational Saturday, 11/5. Times and details to come soon.

FBA vs. UA

Congratulations are in order for Ursuline Academy for their 15-44 victory over FBA.
The main FBA highlights came from a pair of big PRs. Erin Fanikos hit 26:00, a new best by 27 seconds! Deirdre Cahill matched that 27-second improvement in her first race back from injury, and broke the family course record in the process. Congratulations.

FBA v. NDA

Congratulations to Notre Dame Academy for a strong 15-50 victory today.

On the Fontbonne side, though, there was also a lot to like. FBA, you did a good job running your own races and keeping your heads despite illnesses. You all found ways to compete for yourselves and for your team.

In the JV race, Caitlyn Hansbury set a new PR by 3 seconds with a superb finish.

In the varsity race, Michelle Hurwitz ran a PR for the 3rd straight race, dropping to 24:52 with a couple of powerful moves on the hills.
Collette O'Connor led the team in 24:07 with a competitive finish.
Shannon Glynn had improved her PR by half a minute with a strong second half of the race. Erin Fanikos (7-second PR)and Caroline Brady, who stepped up to the varsity race again, joined Shannon running hard up gasline and down to the finish in an inspiring team effort.

You are becoming better not just as runners but also as racers.

Thanks go out to Deirdre Cahill, Emily Chabot, and, of course, Mrs. Nilan for helping to run the meet.
